Beresfords Australian Ethical Shares portfolio favours companies that meet ethical criteria and avoids companies that do not. The objective of this portfolio is to achieve long term capital growth and dividend income by investing in a diversified portfolio of Australian companies which meet environmental, social and corporate governance criteria.
The investment approach features both negative and positive filters to identify companies that meet social and ethical criteria. Negative filters prevent the portfolio from investing in companies with a direct exposure to tobacco, alcohol, gaming, defense and uranium. Positive filters on the other hand are used to highlight companies with a valuable contribution to society, labour standards, the environment, and governance. Positive filters allow the investment process to reward companies that demonstrate actions that benefit the community or take action to overcome the inherent negative social or environmental impacts of their operations.
